Policy of Screening for Plagiarism
SIYAR Journal upholds the highest standards of academic integrity and strictly prohibits all forms of plagiarism. To ensure the originality of submissions, every manuscript is subjected to a rigorous plagiarism screening process before entering the peer-review stage.
Plagiarism Detection System
SIYAR Journal uses iThenticate and other reliable plagiarism detection software to evaluate all submitted manuscripts. Similarity checks are conducted systematically, and the results are reviewed by our editorial team. Authors are informed of any significant issues detected during this process.
-
Similarity Threshold: Manuscripts with a similarity index of more than 20% (excluding references, quotations, and common phrases) will be returned to the author for revision or may be outright rejected depending on the severity.
-
Acceptable Overlap: Minor similarities (below 20%) may be allowed if properly cited and deemed non-problematic by the editorial team.
Types of Plagiarism
Authors are expected to understand and avoid the following forms of plagiarism:
-
Direct Plagiarism
Copying text, sentences, or paragraphs verbatim from another source without proper citation. This is the most recognizable form of plagiarism and is strictly prohibited. -
Substantial Plagiarism
Using significant portions of another scholar’s work—whether text, data, figures, or tables—without attribution. Reproducing another author’s intellectual property in both quantity and quality is a serious ethical violation. -
Paraphrasing without Attribution
Restating another person’s ideas, arguments, or concepts in different words without acknowledging the source. Even if the wording is changed, failure to credit the original author constitutes plagiarism. -
Self-Plagiarism (Redundant Publication)
Republishing one’s own previously published work, in whole or in part, without proper citation or justification. This includes submitting the same manuscript to multiple journals simultaneously.
Editorial Actions in Case of Plagiarism
If plagiarism is detected, SIYAR Journal will take the following actions, depending on the severity:
-
Minor Plagiarism (<20%): Authors are asked to revise the manuscript and provide proper citations.
-
Moderate Plagiarism (20–40%): Manuscript is returned to the author for major revision. Authors must provide a revised version within a specified time.
-
Severe Plagiarism (>40% or copied in entirety): Manuscript is immediately rejected. If detected post-publication, the article will be retracted from the journal, and the authors’ institutions may be notified.
Author Responsibility
Before submission, authors must ensure that:
-
Their manuscripts are entirely original works.
-
Proper citations and attributions are included for all borrowed ideas, figures, or text.
-
Any overlapping content from their prior works is clearly referenced and justified.
Commitment to Academic Integrity
By enforcing this policy, SIYAR Journal seeks to protect the rights of authors, maintain the credibility of the academic record, and foster a culture of honesty and respect in scholarly communication.
