Plagiarism Policy

Introduction

Journal of Integrative International Relations (JIIR) upholds a strict anti-plagiarism policy to ensure the integrity, originality, and academic credibility of all published scholarly works. The journal is fully committed to promoting original research that adheres to the highest standards of academic and publication ethics. This policy defines plagiarism, explains how it is detected, and outlines the procedures followed when plagiarism is identified. By submitting a manuscript to JIIR, authors confirm that their work is original and free from any form of plagiarism.

Definition of Plagiarism

Plagiarism refers to the unauthorized use, reproduction, or presentation of another person’s ideas, words, data, or creative work without proper acknowledgment. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Copying text, sentences, or substantial content verbatim without quotation marks and appropriate citation;

  • Paraphrasing another author’s work too closely without adequate attribution;

  • Reproducing figures, tables, datasets, or results without permission or proper credit;

  • Presenting existing concepts, theories, or interpretations as one’s own;

  • Self-plagiarism, including the reuse of substantial portions of previously published work without clear reference, citation, or justification.

All forms of plagiarism constitute a serious violation of academic ethics and are strictly prohibited. Authors are responsible for acknowledging all intellectual contributions appropriately.

Policy Guidelines

Plagiarism Screening
All submitted manuscripts undergo plagiarism screening prior to the peer-review process.

Detection Tool
JIIR uses Turnitin to detect and assess text similarity.

Similarity Threshold
Manuscripts with an overall similarity score exceeding 20% will be subject to further editorial evaluation, taking into account context, citation practices, and disciplinary norms.

Exclusions
Reference lists, bibliographies, and properly quoted material with correct citations are excluded from similarity assessments.

Consequences

  • Before Publication: If plagiarism is identified, the manuscript will be rejected. The corresponding author will be notified, and in cases of serious misconduct, the author’s affiliated institution may be informed.

  • After Publication: If plagiarism is confirmed after publication, JIIR will conduct an investigation and may retract the article. A formal retraction notice will be issued, and the relevant institution may be notified.

JIIR reserves the right to impose additional sanctions depending on the severity and nature of the violation.

Implementation Procedures

Initial Screening
Upon submission, the editorial team conducts a plagiarism check using Turnitin and generates a similarity report.

Editorial Evaluation
Editors carefully review similarity reports to distinguish between acceptable overlap (such as commonly used phrases or properly cited material) and unethical copying.

Author Responsibility
Authors bear full responsibility for ensuring the originality of their manuscripts and for obtaining permission to use any copyrighted material.

Handling Allegations
If plagiarism is suspected, the editorial board will investigate the case in accordance with established ethical procedures, providing authors with an opportunity to respond.

Transparency and Communication
JIIR maintains transparency throughout the plagiarism detection and resolution process. Authors may contact the editorial office for clarification or further information.

Policy Review
This policy is periodically reviewed and updated to remain aligned with best practices in academic publishing and research ethics.
