Peer Review Process
Manuscripts submitted to the Journal of Integrative International Relations undergo a selection and evaluation process by the Editorial Board to ensure they meet the journal’s writing guidelines, scope, and high academic standards. The journal employs a double-blind peer review system, where neither authors nor reviewers are aware of each other’s identities.
Desk Review: In this initial stage, the manuscript is checked for adherence to the journal’s formatting guidelines, relevance to its scope, and academic quality. If the manuscript does not meet these requirements, the author may be invited to revise it based on specific criteria. However, some submissions may be declined outright at this stage.
Peer Review: Manuscripts that pass the desk review are assigned to two expert reviewers in the relevant field. The review process typically takes up to three weeks. Manuscripts that do not pass the desk review do not proceed to this stage.
Reviewer Decision: Reviewers provide one of the following recommendations:
-
Accepted – the manuscript is ready for publication;
-
Accepted with minor revisions – the manuscript is suitable for publication after minor corrections;
-
Accepted with major revisions – significant changes are required, including in areas such as data analysis, theoretical framework, or overall structure;
-
Rejected – the manuscript is not suitable for publication due to fundamental issues.
The reviewer feedback will guide the Editorial Board in determining the manuscript’s next steps.
Revision Stage: Manuscripts that are conditionally accepted will be returned to the author along with a review summary form. Authors have three weeks to complete major revisions and one week for minor revisions. When resubmitting the revised manuscript, authors must include the completed review summary form.
Final Decision: The Editorial Board will reassess the revised manuscript to ensure that all reviewer comments have been adequately addressed. Manuscripts may still be rejected at this stage if the revisions are insufficient.
Proofreading: Once accepted, the manuscript undergoes proofreading to ensure clarity, consistency, and linguistic quality.
Publication Confirmation: The final layout is sent to the author for confirmation. Authors can correct any remaining typographical errors. Once approved, the manuscript will be scheduled for online publication on the journal’s website and printed publication if applicable.
