Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration.
  • The article is submitted adhere to JIIR template.
  • Provide references of the submitted article in the metadata box, separated from the article file, and accessible to be extracted or indexed. Another important files (data sheets, nvivo, spss files, etc.) also can be submitted separately.

Author Guidelines

Authors interested in submitting to the Journal of Integrative International Relations (JIIR) can learn the submission process using OJS 3 by accessing the instructional resources provided here. This video offers a comprehensive view of the submission process from the author’s perspective.

 

Focus and Scope

The Journal of Integrative International Relations (JIIR) is a biannual academic journal published by the Center for Integrative International Studies Laboratory, Faculty of Political and Social Sciences, State Islamic University of Sunan Ampel Surabaya, in collaboration with the Indonesian Islamic Studies and International Relations Association (INSIERA). The journal aims to foster and disseminate scholarly research, promote discourse, and enhance networking among scholars, practitioners, and academics in the field of International Relations through scientific publications.

JIIR is a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary platform, covering a broad range of topics in International Relations, including but not limited to global security, international political economy, international trade, regional studies, globalization, and global conflict management. The journal places particular emphasis on works that explore the integration of Islamic studies with International Relations. Accepted submissions may include original research articles, theoretical essays, and book reviews, all of which are subject to a rigorous peer-review process based on established criteria.

 

General Submission Requirements

  • Manuscripts may be submitted in either Indonesian (adhering to EYD guidelines) or English (academic writing).
  • Submissions must represent original work and must not have been previously published in any other ISSN-registered publication.
  • Manuscripts should be submitted exclusively via the JIIR Open Journal System (OJS).
  • All submissions are subject to a blind peer review process, where the identity of the author will remain anonymous to reviewers.

 

Writing Guidelines

Manuscripts should adhere to the following formatting requirements:

  1. Software and Formatting: Manuscripts must be prepared using MS Word version 2017 at least, with a B5 page size, mirrored margins, Calibri 11-point font, and single-line spacing. Paragraphs should be justified with a 6-point space between them, and the first line of each paragraph should be indented by 0.75 cm.
  2. Length: Research articles and theoretical essays should be between 4000 to 5000 words, while book reviews should range from 1000 to 2000 words.
  3. Headings: The main title should be written in 20-point bold font, left-aligned. Subheadings should be in 11.5-point bold font, and secondary subheadings should use 11.5-point italicized bold font.
  4. Title Page: The title page should contain only the article title, the author's name (without titles), institutional affiliation, and contact information (in 11.5-point italicized font, left-aligned). An abstract and keywords must also be provided on the title page.
  5. Abstract and Keywords: Abstracts must be written in both English and Indonesian, each limited to 200 words. Keywords should consist of at least three terms, separated by semicolons. The abstract should be in 10-point font, with keywords following in 11-point font, 6 points below the abstract.

 

Manuscript Structure

Research Articles:

  1. Introduction: Including background, literature review, and research objectives.
  2. Methodology: Detailed description of research methods.
  3. Results: Presentation of research findings.
  4. Discussion: Interpretation and analysis of results.
  5. Conclusion: Summary of findings and their implications.
  6. Bibliography: A complete list of references.

Theoretical Essays:

  1. Introduction: Providing background and outlining the scope of the essay.
  2. Main Discussion: May be divided into several sections.
  3. Conclusion: Final summary of the essay.
  4. Bibliography: A comprehensive list of sources.

Book Reviews:

  1. Book Information: Title, author, publisher, publication year, edition, number of pages, and price.
  2. Review: A critical summary of the book, including its strengths and weaknesses in terms of content, language, and structure.
  3. Reviewer’s Perspective: An analysis of the book's relevance to its intended audience and its significance within the field.

 

Citation and Quotation Guidelines

  • Direct Quotations: Direct quotations of fewer than 40 words should be incorporated into the text using double quotation marks ("..."). If quotation marks are used within the quotation, single quotation marks (‘…’) should be employed. For quotations exceeding 40 words, the text should be formatted as a block quote, indented 0.75 cm from both the left and right margins, single-spaced, and in 10-point font.
  • Indirect Quotations: Indirect quotations should be paraphrased and integrated into the main text, followed by appropriate citation.

 

Referencing Style

All references, including citations and bibliographies, should conform to the latest edition of the Chicago Manual of Style (CMS). Citations should follow the full note format (endnotes), which should be placed at the end of the manuscript prior to the bibliography. Endnotes should be in 9-point font.
