Generative AI Policy

The Indonesian Journal of Political Studies (IJPS) recognizes the growing use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies, particularly Generative AI (GenAI) such as ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini, and similar tools in academic writing. While these technologies may assist authors in the writing process, their use must remain responsible, transparent, and aligned with the principles of academic integrity, intellectual independence, and ethical scholarly conduct.

Disclosure Requirement: Authors are required to disclose any use of Generative AI or AI-assisted technologies during the writing of the manuscript. A disclosure statement must be placed in a dedicated section titled “Declaration of Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies in the Writing Process”, positioned before the references section at the time of initial submission. This statement will also appear in the final published version.

Permitted Use: Generative AI tools may only be used to enhance language quality, clarity, readability, or grammar. They may not be used to create arguments, formulate political analysis, develop theoretical reasoning, or interpret research findings. All analytical and intellectual contributions must remain the responsibility of the author(s).

Author Responsibility: Any content developed with the assistance of AI tools must be thoroughly reviewed, verified, and edited by the author(s). Authors retain full responsibility for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and scholarly merit of the manuscript.

AI Cannot Be Listed as Author: AI tools or AI-assisted technologies must not be credited as authors or co-authors. Authorship implies human accountability, intellectual contribution, and responsibility, all of which cannot be attributed to AI systems.

Use of AI in the Editorial and Peer Review Process: To safeguard the confidentiality, integrity, and fairness of the review process, IJPS strictly prohibits editors and reviewers from using Generative AI or AI-assisted tools (such as ChatGPT) during manuscript evaluation. All assessments, critiques, and decisions must be conducted solely by human reviewers.

Periodic Review: This policy will be periodically reviewed and updated to reflect advancements in AI technologies and evolving international ethical standards in scholarly publishing.
