Plagiarism Policy

1. Introduction

The Indonesian Journal of Political Studies (IJPS) upholds a strict anti-plagiarism policy to ensure the integrity, originality, and academic credibility of all published works. IJPS is committed to promoting original scholarship and maintaining the highest standards of publication ethics. By submitting a manuscript to IJPS, authors confirm that their work is original, properly cited, and free from any form of plagiarism.

2. Definition of Plagiarism

Plagiarism is defined as the use, reproduction, or presentation of another person’s ideas, words, data, or creative work without proper acknowledgment. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Copying text, sentences, or substantial content verbatim without quotation marks and appropriate citation.
  • Paraphrasing another author’s work without proper attribution.
  • Reproducing figures, tables, data, or research results without permission or proper credit.
  • Presenting existing ideas, theories, or interpretations as original contributions.
  • Self-plagiarism, including the reuse of substantial parts of previously published work without clear reference or justification.

All forms of plagiarism are considered serious violations of academic ethics and are strictly prohibited.

3. Plagiarism Screening and Similarity Threshold

  • Screening Process: All submitted manuscripts are screened for plagiarism before entering the peer-review process.
  • Detection Tools: IJPS uses Turnitin and may employ additional similarity-checking tools when necessary.
  • Maximum Similarity Score: The maximum acceptable similarity index is 25%, excluding references, bibliographies, and properly quoted material.
  • Editorial Assessment: Similarity reports are carefully evaluated by the editorial team to distinguish acceptable overlap (e.g., methodological descriptions or properly cited material) from unethical plagiarism.

A similarity score below the threshold does not automatically guarantee acceptance, nor does a score above the threshold automatically result in rejection; editorial judgment is applied in all cases.

4. Consequences of Plagiarism

Before Publication:
If plagiarism is detected during the screening or review process, the manuscript will be rejected. In cases of serious misconduct, the editorial board may notify the authors’ affiliated institution.

After Publication:
If plagiarism is confirmed after publication, IJPS will conduct a formal investigation. Proven cases may result in article retraction in accordance with the journal’s retraction policy, accompanied by a published retraction notice. The authors’ institution may also be informed.

IJPS reserves the right to impose additional sanctions depending on the severity and nature of the misconduct.

5. Author Responsibilities and Ethical Handling

Authors are fully responsible for the originality of their manuscripts and for obtaining permission to use any copyrighted material. When allegations of plagiarism arise, the editorial board will follow established ethical procedures, allowing authors the opportunity to respond.

IJPS is committed to transparency and fairness in handling plagiarism cases and regularly reviews this policy to ensure compliance with international best practices in academic publishing.
